Dentist Biography

Dr. Nathaniel Lim grew up in California. Dr. Lim went to University of California, Los Angeles for undergraduate studies in biology and graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in 2000. Dr. Lim is married and has a son.

After Northwestern University Dental School, Dr. Lim continued to advance his dental knowledge and techniques through The Dawson Center. Dr. Lim has been personally trained by Dr. Peter Dawson, who is known in the dental community as the “father of occlusion” (bite) and jaw joint/muscle pain analysis and treatment.

Dr. Lim completed training through Spear Institute (formerly known as Scottsdale Center for Advanced Dental Education) with Dr. Frank Spear. The Spear Institute emphasizes on comprehensive and cosmetic analysis and treatment of various challenging dental conditions such as severely worn teeth, bite problems, joint problems and aesthetic/cosmetic restoration to bring back not only your smile but your function which is just as important or more important just looking good.

Dr. Lim also received Ankylos implant, Prexion 3D computer tomography (CT) cone beam, and DEKA laser training from Northstar Education with Dr. Jon Julian. With this education and the accompanying technology of Prexion 3D CT cone beam and DEKA laser technology, Dr. Lim can place Ankylos implant that is virtually pain-free without the uncomfortable “hammering” or “tapping” of traditional implants. Dr. Lim uses powerful scopes and lighting to treat each and every patient. Used in conjunction with the Prexion 3D CT cone beam, it is almost like having x-ray vision to look at everything that is happening on your teeth, jaw and joint area!

Technology

Computer Tomography 3D Cone Beam by Prexion

Prexion 3D computer tomography (CT) cone beam renders virtual 3D models of your jaw that cannot be seen with any other traditional radiographic (x-ray) technology.  Imagine looking at your teeth, sinus and jaw in 3D on the computer screen.  Now imagine seeing right through it!  You can see everything from the surface and anything in between!

CO₂Laser by DEKA

DEKA CO₂ laser is a powerful laser that allows surgical treatment of soft tissue with no inflammation or pain!  It allows us to treat and remove unwanted inflamed and infected tissue with healing times far less than any traditional incisions made by a scalpel.  This leads to shorter healing time and less discomfort overall.

Cavity Laser Detector by Diagnodent

Diagnodent allows us to detect tooth decay that x-rays cannot see.  We can now locate hidden decay in it’s earliest stage, and with treatment, stop the spread of the disease before it destroys the tooth from within.

Digital Radiography by Schick

Digital x-rays has been in our practice for over 15 years!  It is a technology that minimizes exposure to unnecessary radiation and has the convenience of instant developing with viewing on a (large) computer screen.

Magnification

Magnifying loupes in dentistry is an invaluable tool that allows your dentist to see what our naked eye cannot see. The typical magnification is 2.5x, 3.5x, 5.5x or 6x. The higher the magnification, the more you can see.  Dr. Lim uses only 6x magnification loupes to treat each and every patient.

To supplement the loupes, a tethered lighting that is rated at 9500 footcandle’s strength is used to enhance the field of view. Greater than 2x stronger than the traditional overhead light used in traditional dental offices. Essentially, nothing can be missed when this is used in conjunction with Prexion 3D CT cone beam technology!
